If ever you shipped at CompUSA's Business Sales Dept, you got to know Rick Danielson because he could tell you anything you needed to know about the problem you had with your computer or network. I went in one day to play with the Mac's. While playing a version of Never Ball, Rick came up to me to sell me a Mac. The entire time I was playing this game that I had never played, Rick was telling me how great it was to work at CompUSA. I never explained to him about my business or computer background, but somehow he sold me on the position as I was losing the game. We have been friends ever since. Rick died of a heart attack early yesterday morning. When he got up, he started writing his 3rd screenplay for the FX Channel, with one in the works, and the other that was/may start this September, both of which were to be shot near Frenchmen's Street. LEDA hosts workforce training seminar co-sponsored by the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce

Lafayette, LA–Hundreds of Acadiana businesses are taking advantage of millions of dollars in workforce training grants, and funds are available for the 2008-2009 fiscal year starting July 1, 2008. The Lafayette Economic Development Authority (LEDA) will host a workforce training seminar, Training Grants & Funding, to provide information on workforce training resources. The seminar takes place on Tuesday, June 24, at 9 a.m., at the LEDA Resource Center, 211 E. Devalcourt St.

Local training providers will be on hand to provide information on available training courses, and businesses can register for classes, and apply for funding on the spot. Businesses with 50 or fewer employees may be able to use the Small Business Employee Training Program that provides up to $3,000 per employee for annual workforce training, including computer training, safety training, and a wide range of other standardized training courses.

The Incumbent Worker Training Program provides up to $200,000 or more for qualifying businesses to design a 12-month, customized workforce training plan.

Information about other workforce recruitment services available at NO CHARGE to businesses and services available to owners of small businesses through the Small and Emerging Business Development Program will also be presented.

All users are being asked to download, read, sign and return the appropriate form to the Disaster Recovery Division of GOHSEP as soon as possible. The deadline to return the form is by close of business on June 15th, 2008. Access will be removed for those who do not return a completed form by close of business on June 30th, 2008.

LED Announces Phase II of Louisiana Business Recovery Grant & Loan Program introduced

On May 27, Louisiana Economic Development (LED) and Louisiana Recovery Authority (LRA) announce the launch of the second phase of the Louisiana Business Recovery Grant and Loan Program designed to support businesses recovering from the after-effects of hurricanes Katrina and Rita. State officials have made $80 million dollars available in combination grants and zero-interest loans for recovering businesses in this phase. The program will accept applications June 9 - July 18 through community-based financing intermediaries across the region.
