LOUISIANA TECHNOLOGY HAPPENINGS

Google Maps for Louisiana Contraflow - http://www.contraflowmaps.com
------------------------------------------------------------------

South Louisiana now an active contraflow program first used during evacuation for Hurricane Ivan in the summer of 2004. Now a group of New Orleans citizens have taken the official printed version of the Louisiana Contraflow Maps and converted them into a Google Map version.

The Google Map “Mashup” of the New Orleans Contraflow maps is their first project: www.contraflowmaps.com. The site is being launched to coincide with the 2nd anniversary of Katrina (August 29th).

Proceeds from advertising will be donated to Katrina relief efforts. Thanks to all who participated to make this possible.


LTC Calls for 2007 eWard Nominations

It's time of year again. The time to celebrate innovation, creativity, and technology.
The Louisiana Technology Council (LTC), in partnership with Greater New Orleans Inc. (GNO, Inc.) present this cooperative program designed to recognize the technological achievements of the greater New Orleans Metropolitan area's top companies, organizations and individuals.

The LTC and GNO Inc. invite all businesses,, educators and users of technology in the Greater New Orleans region to submit nominations for the following 2007 eWARD categories:

Outstanding Leadership in Technology
Technology Educator of the Year
Growth Company/Organization of the Year
New Technology Product of the Year
Technology Transfer Company of the Year
Best Application of Technology
Technology Renaissance Award (NEW CATEGORY)

BrightVote.Com Challenges to Change Louisiana Politics
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------


Breaking the tragic pattern of dismal political performance in Louisiana is the mission of BrightVote, a political campaign strategy company based in New Orleans. BrightVote has released a program that turns the way politicians are elected upside down and is quickly recruiting candidates and potential candidates for the Louisiana State Legislature to adopt its model..

BrightVote's software will securely track the vote of any registered voter in a district and the BrightVote-assisted candidate will vote with the majority of those voters. The software intends to create a first-ever opportunity for direct communication with a legislator’s constituents.

US Coast Guard Innovation Expo
(October 29 - November 1, 2007)

Location: Ernest Morial Convention Center, New Orleans
Cost: $1750 per booth for LTC Members; $1995 per booth for non-LTC Members

The 2007 Innovation Expo is the largest event for the U.S. Coast Guard and is expected to draw over 300 exhibitors and 2,500 government, military, academia and industry representatives.  The U.S. Coast Guard falls under the Department of Homeland Security which has set a $42.7 billion dollar budget for 2007.

NDIA, who produces the event for the US Coast Guard, has invited Louisiana Technology Council members to have a pavilion at this year's event. The Louisiana Pavilion can accommodate up to 10 booths (10 x 10 area) and the cost per booth is only $1750 for LTC Members, $1995 for non-members; booths normally sell for $3995 for the entire event.

Homeland Security Summit

Tulane University School of Continuing Studies
Homeland Security Studies Program is pleased to present a symposium entitled "Emergency Management and Counter Terrorism ~ Managing Dual Missions."
 

This program is designed for both public and private sector homeland security professionals who are involved in emergency management, law enforcement, emergency medical services, fire service and emergency preparedness.  Private sector businesses and organizations that are responsible for critical infrastructure protection as well as students of homeland security studies are welcome as well.
